Health and Social Care at Ludlow College is ideal if you do not want to take a purely academic style GCE. It offers learners the opportunity to experience a range of practical and written activities that provide an insight into many aspects of Health and Social Care.
It offers a lot of choice which means that you can tailor it to meet your skills, interests and ambitions. Students are given the opportunity to participate in practical placements within a care setting, which enables them to understand the processes of care and also, the types of care and services that are available to patients.
Previous results have shown that the students have been well prepared and that the delivery of the course has been successful in meeting the requirements of the specifications.
The course consists of 12 units, 4 of which are externally examined and 8 which are assessed through portfolio work. The content of the units range from promoting good health in a care setting to complementary therapy and mental health issues to research methods.
On completion of the course, you will have gained the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to be able to present and deliver high quality care in a variety of settings. Students with an Advanced GCE in Health and Social Care have access to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities. Taken with Science, Sociology or Psychology it supports applications for a wide range of university courses such as Nursing, Midwifery, Teacher Training or Social Work.
